Choosing the right illustration to market.
Welcome back! As I mentioned in last week’s blog, I thought I might share some of the commissioned pieces this week, but I need to make sure my customers are ok with me doing that. So instead, I am highlighting a few illustrations I haven’t marketed beyond the original project. This is also the opportunity for you to give me your feedback, would you hang any of these in your home? Thanks again for supporting my blog and art and continue to #spreadbeauty!
Choosing what to put on our walls.
We recently moved, well in pandemic time it was recent, we actually move about six months ago. We were living in a three story row home in Manayunk, a borough of Philadelphia. We had a number of art pieces that we have acquired over the last few years that we really enjoy and want to see on a regular basis. Our new space is a little smaller, an apartment in and 3-story home built around 1920 in another area of Philadelphia. Because of the downsizing, I had to make some choices of what to hang and what to store. I kept a few areas that I have been rotating different pieces through seasonally, which brings me to the topic of this week’s blog. What do people want on their walls?
These three pieces haven’t made it into my shop yet, but I am considering adding at least one to my collection.
The three pieces I am showing you today were done originally for Stowe Mountain Resort. Like the piece in the first week’s blog they were originally illustrated for the Season Pass Holder gift. After the season pass illustration and print is a few years old, I have the option of producing my own prints to sell at shows or in my ETSY shop. I didn’t have any system for choosing what would be printed and what would not, it was really just my personal taste and after doing a few shows, seeing what people liked. These three pieces haven’t made it into my shop yet, but I am considering adding at least one to my collection and I would love your feedback.
A little about each one.
From the top illustration down. Sunrise on top of Mansfield was illustrated in 2015. Capturing the lighting and morning glow was a challenge. Anyone who has been lucky enough to witness the sunrise from the mountain can tell you it is stunning. The middle piece, Chin Bunny was created in 2013. This one captures a quiet moment in nature, just the Bunny and soft snow. The bottom one was illustrated in 2016 following the completion of the rink in Spruce Peak Village. This illustration was all about celebrating and enjoying the moment. I don’t have many illustrations with people, so that makes this one somewhat unique.
